Eastern Railroad Discussion > The Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Saranac Lake

As shown in my post here a couple of weeks back, I visited the Adirondack Scenic Railroad between Lake Placid and Saranac Lake on October 9th of this year, for probably the last time, with this section of railway likely to be converted into a trail. My first post showed two scenic locations between the two end points, what follows are nine shots from Saranac Lake.

1-The first train of the day has just arrived into Saranac Lake, with ex-PRR GP9 AIDX 6076 leading 4 cars painted in a NYC-inpsired paint scheme. In the background is the train station, built by the Delaware & Hudson 1904.

2-A father asks if his son can climb into the engine before they run around their train. His son would get his wish.

3-The GP9 is running around the train. At left is a rail bike. Rail Explorers was a business running bikes that ran on rails on the portion of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad west of Saranac Lake that does not see trains.

Excellent photographs!!!  Hope they don't turn this historic railroad into a snowmobile trail. 

Beautiful station structure.

There is plenty of room for co-existance..... no need to rip up the rail line....Someone must be paying somebody....
