Eastern Railroad Discussion > Chasing a newly rebuilt ex-UP.Date: 10/26/16 20:00 Chasing a newly rebuilt ex-UP. Author: ddavies From a HU on the Lurgan line, I went out to shadow NS 7252 leading 228 away from Virginia Inland Port. Nice sunny day when I started, but after waiting almost 3 hours at Vardo Yard (Hagerstown) for a local to finish working off the main, by the time 228 got down to Cedarville, VA, it was really heavy cloud cover with a hint of mist in the air. :-(
First image is 228 pulling away from VIP after making his pickup. Second image is NS 7252 leading 228 down grade at Distillery Road on the B-line. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 10/27/16 13:48 Re: Chasing a newly rebuilt ex-UP. Author: PRR1361 They are in the 7200-7300 series just above the SD-80MAC's and classified as SD-70ACU's, the "U" for UP conversion. Some un-rebuilt have been re-numbered into the series after being equipped with cab signals.prior to being converted.

The 100 former UP SD90MAC's that NS acquired via EMD were renumbered in the NS 7229-7328 series by EMD before delivery to NS (except for UP 8247). Although NS did upgrade some of the units with cab signals after acqusiation, that had nothing to do with the renumbering. The "U" in the NS SD70ACU model designation stands for Upgraded. NS also acquired 10 additional SD90's from CIT Group, which are in the process of being patch-renumbered into the 7329-7338 series. Those units will also eventually go through the SD70ACU rebuilding program. Here are detailed rosters of both the NS SD90MAC's and SD70ACU rebuilds: NS SD90MAC Roster Page NS SD70ACU Roster Page Chris Toth NSDash9.com |
