Hi All,
Can any one tell me the approximate times the Amtrak fall foilliage trains from Penn Station NYC to Harrisburg, PA to Phila back to NYC will get onto the NS Reading line between Allentown and Reading , PA?

It should be entering Allentown around 10:00am. I'm not too familiar with the train's speed given its an excursion run, but I know it's leaving Newark at 8:30

I'm not sure that freights are authorized to operate that fast, but I'm hoping passenger trains are. I'm riding on Sunday!!

Only place on the entire Harrisburg Division that is good for 60, is the Lurgan south of CP SHIP.  Max speed on the Lehigh, Reading, and Harrisburg lines is 50 MPH.  Passenger trains can do 60 in CRSAA between Newark and Aldene, but it is only 6 or so miles.

I have a question for you. First a little history. Back in the 60's I use to ride on the East Penn local from Kutzrown to Allentown in the cab. (You could do that back then).of GP7's RS3's and AS16's. I remember standing next to the engineer(Harry Guistwite, May he rest in peace) and watching his every move and also the speeddomemtor. When we got back on what is today Main two at Hancock (Between Topton and Mertztown.) Harry would get into notch 8 and he had his train doing 60MPH and once at a few places 65mph.This was on jointed rail, before welded rail. My question is this . Here it is 50 years later and the speed limit is only 50mph. Why is that? thank you for your answer. Jim
