Eastern Railroad Discussion > Sapphire, KY NW-2 ex NYO&W 127

Does anyone know if the former NYO&W 127 (NW-2 EMD 3180 built 1948) still exists in Kentucky ?

Last reported at the Sapphire processing plant - Cook Brothers ? former Golden Oak ?

If not, anyone know when it was cut up or sold off ?

The processing plant is in Isom, KY near Whitesburg.  Hopefully, someone nearby will check this out.

Here is a photo when it still worked for original owner NYO&W as #127.

The scene is the northbound Rome Local at Solsville NY in 1955 that operated from the O&W terminal at Norwich north to the industrial city of Rome. Photo by William S. Wilcox. It appears in the photo that they have just picked up an empty from the Solsville GLF Feed Store and the brakeman is asking for a "little on the pin" to lock the couplers. The hoppers are likely mtys headed for the limestone quarry at Oriskany Falls for reloading.

The O&W went out of business in 1957 and this locomotive went to New York Central. as NYC 9512, to PC 8695  and upgraded in 1974 and renumbered 9177. It went to Conrail as 9177 and was retired May 22, 1981, eventually ending up in Kentucky.

Very few pieces of O&W equipment still exists these days, 59 years after they closed their doors for good.
