Conrail Caboose Help
Author: UPTRAIN

When I was younger I volunteered at a railroad museum in Poplar Bluff, MO, Mo-Ark Regional Railroad Museum, to be exact.  I still pitch in when I can but I moved to Kansas City in 2007.  One of the railcars in our collection is an Ex-Conrail N-8A Class bay window caboose.  First of all, only 1 of the 3 or 4 CR caboose websites even list this one as a survior, and as far as I can tell it's a releatively uncommon car in its surviving, modified form.  It's painted Frisco because, well, it's a Frisco depot, and a caboose that hails from 1,500 miles away didn't exactly fit the "theme" when the museum was founded.

What I'm running into difficulty with is what was its original number?  More than source seems to think this car is Ex-CR 23669, PC same number, but two different sites list two different orignal New Haven NE-6 class numbers (C-639 and C-696).  Any idea which one (or either) is correct?

Here's the car as it appeared on 11-30-16.

I hope somebody has an answer, I will be grateful!

Info I have from a Conrail roster shows CR 23669 N8a as PC 23669 and NH 696 Built 7-48 ' Was repainted CR on 7/1/77 . The NH 639 comes back as CR 23624 built 1/48 same class N8A . Repainted 7/28/78  Both cars had their cuploa windows plated over and the bay window added by PC ---   Ken

I appreciate it!  I'll pass along the infomation.  It looks like a new paint job might go on this car sometime in 2017 or 2018.  Not sure what route we'll go yet.
