It's a first! 182 years in the making....
Author: Railfan94

Now I'm just a mere 22 years old, and I've only been at this for about 8 years, but I can honestly say I never thought I would get to see history made on the RF&P, but that changed today.

Train Q135-22 headed up the RF&P this morning out of Richmond under the cover of darkness, deterring most railfans from seeing such a historic event. As for me, well I was not going to miss this once in a lifetime event for anything! Seen here passing through the Fredericksburg Station at 0625, Q135 gets under way having just picked up Road Foreman Smith a half mile south of here with ET44AH's #3319 and #3320. This train is the first ever double stack to run this line in its 182 year history. The first 6 or so wells were doubled up with compnay containers, but overall, the 7,600 foot long train was about 90% stacks.

Now that's cool. Even got 2 New Tier 4 leaders. Even the containers say CSX How Tomorrow Moves. Not even a good catch, but to catch How Tomorrow Move Containers behind Boxcar logo units the way you caught here, is something to remember. Also great history. Took 182 years.

Wow, they actually made an effort for the first stack run to look like a publicity train.

Looks like they had a ribbon cutting ceremony, either at Portsmouth or Virginia Ave (tunnel), with all the company containers up front.  Looked good at Shen, pic later.

Great job of documenting - you were there as it happened, something you'll probably never forget...good memories, there's nothing more precious!

Great catch indeed! Now if NS can only do that here in Columbus, GA, that would be a first for me to witness here in my hometown. Stacks have yet to be brought down here from Birmingham, Ala..

Rare to see CSX units that clean.   Wonderful what promotion  does to power.

Beautifully lit.  How was the lighting arranged?

Merry Xmas!

Great photos!  Glad you made the effort to capture important history.  Is it just the lighting,
or are the eng. numbers and CSX emblems now more orange than yellow?

And Happy Holidays to you too!
