Big 4 Columbus to Cleveland

More specifically between Galion and Columbus. How much traffic runs this way? It had been moderately busy until the Conrail split but I haven't been up that way in years. Thanks for any info.

Two or three trains a day at the most. Came close to mothballing it about a year a go.

I believe that section of the line only sees Q226/227 and a daily local but I cannot confirm.

Q226/Q227 don't run the Columbus Line Sub. Q022 and Q123 utilize the line, but other than that, only occasional coal and grain trains, plus the local to the Anheuser-Busch brewery near Worthington.

I'm wondering if CSX is still considering leasing the line to someone.

Anything marginal on CSX is available at the right price, which is too bad.  CSX and other railroads cannot seem to take the long view of railroading, which requires patience during economic downturns.  Instead they listen to the screamers on Wall St. who want profits at any cost.

Conrail used to run SECO/COSE and BUCO and COBU.  What routing does CSX use today to get cars from Selkirk/Buffalo to Columbus?

So basically most Big Four traffic from Berea leaves the Big Four at Greenwich?

Yes. Other than traffic heading for Marysville Cincinnati Indianpolis and points west.

I lived near the Columbus Line in the early '90's. Here is what ran daily then: TV-5, TV-6, MAIL-3H, MAIL-4, COPI, PICO, COBU, BUCO, COSE, SECO, COHY, HYCO, YSCO-39. Plus whatever coal or grain. Some of the symbols changed, COLT replaced COHY, for example.

The Columbus Line was great back in those days.  The westbound fleet would come in and then TV6 and MAIL4 would depart.  Sad to see it so quiet now.

Seems like the line would be good for Amtrak service--if there were money to pay for it, of course.
