DL 3007
Author: sscannella

A week an a half ago I posted about the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton, PA acquiring former GECX 5000 / BCOL 707 from GE Erie.  Saw it in person for the first time this evening outside the DL shops while I was on my way to visit family.  Obviously not in service yet, hopefully the shop gets it out on the road soon (I know they have several other projects they are working on.)  And please don't let this thread deteriorate into another trespassing lecture like the one a week and a half ago!

You can tell it's been sitting outside at Erie, during the reman it got fresh paint.

Like it, and it's in very nice company.

Is that the winter storage line of RS-3 motors behind it?

BCOL 705 not 707, RRPA's data notwithstanding.

Let's just hope the DL doesn't re letter it as a C630M like they did with the 3000!

Not according to the DL / GVT management who purchased her.  This has been discussed elsewhere.  The last to digits of their numbering scheme (other than their heritage painted units) pay homage to the unit's original number.  Thus BCOL 707 becomes DL 3007.  BTW, their first two digits are their HP rating.

Then why is DL 3000 not 3006?

Perhaps DL got the wrong info from RRPA ?

It was BCOL 705.

BCOL 707 became FNM 707. Photos of it taken well after GECX 5000 existed are plentiful.

I presume it was used as trade in from BCOL on new GEs and that's how GE acquired it. Sales guy who presented
the program to Mexico obviously didn't do a very good job!

Actually a good number of ex. BC Rail M630 and M630W units made it to Mexico for service. GE retained two units for use at their research and testing department, the ex 705 was rebuilt with Dash 7 electronics to demo to FMN and other Mexican railways as a means to update their Alco/MLW fleet.
