The Circus Train, One last ride through Reading
Author: tehachapi-dave

On March 20th, 2017 the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus train made its final run through Reading, PA.  The Circus ends in May, but this is the last time the mile long train will ply the rails through Reading.  Enjoy these views from Wyomissing Jct of the Circus train on its curtain call run through Reading!

Word has it there will be one final run on NS up the Lurgan/Harrisburg/Reading and Lehigh Lines for the final performances in Uniondale, Long Island.

After Long Island, the train will supposedly return empty of performers to FL via CSX.

THAT would be the 2-day run froM Charleston WV to Uniondale NY (Long Island) on May 8 and 9.  We "expect" the route to duplicate portions of last year's final "elephant run"
taken by the Red Unit from Charleston to Wilkes-Barre, but continuing north into New Jersey instead of diverting at Harrisburg to Pennsylvania.  That route would start on the shortline west from Charleston to Deepwater WV, then NS to Mullens, Roanoke VA, up the Shennandoah Valley route to Hagerstown MD, and on to Jersey and NY.  We will know soon enough.

YES: all personnel on both trains are to vacate their rooms upon the final show-days on each tour (they will evidently have to find their own ways home, even those who live in Florida).  The trains, what's left after any cars already sold are cut out, will deadhead EMPTY to Florida for storage and future disposition.  Here is an interesting conundrum:  since the Red Unit ends in the Northeast a week before the Blue Unit ends on Long Island, some people are suggesting they might choose to hold Red show's rail cars in Newark, then after Blue closes out on Long Island, combine the two remaining consists in Newark (Oak Island Yard) for a single Unit Train movement to Florida.  That's problematic at best, but would present a world-record-breaking site to see:  a passenger train with about 80 passenger cars and 40 piggyback flats from 'Jersey to Florida.  (Practially speacking, that doesn't sound feasible, but it is an interesting thought to ponder.....)
