High nose GP38-2 on a local yesterday.
Anyone know what this M/W car is for?  It has two benches in a covered area at one end.

My guess would be  shoving platform. I bet work trains do a lot of backing up.

Could also be used for work train service on electric lines.

​In my opinion that is a stupid looking car to be a shoving platform.  It makes no sense to construct a so called Shoving Car whereby a brakeman has to ride out in the open in all kinds of weather when these railroads still own a number of cabooses which when made into shoving cars the crew at least has some protection from the bad weather,
