Eastern Railroad Discussion > Rare mileage for NS OCSDate: 06/11/05 19:53 Rare mileage for NS OCS Author: SOU3921 In a rare move for the NS OCS, it came into Raleigh, NC at 115am Saturday morning via the NS H-line, ran around the wye in downtown Raleigh, picked up (in the middle of the consist) Business Car NS 3, Claytor Lake, (which has been in Raleigh for the past three weeks), and ran south to Aberdeen to be staged for the US Open at 605am (on schedule) via CSX (former Seaboard line severed at Norlina NC in the 80s). This line is frequently mentioned as being shortlined, but so far has escaped the axe. This is the also the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor. Once arriving at Aberdeen, NC the train was rumored to be split with half staying in Aberdeen and the other half running on 10 miles to Pinehurst via the ACWR (Aberdeen, Carolina and Western), but I couldnt follow it to Abeerdeen, so I am not sure what happened..
The following pictures were taken immediately after sunrise, so they are kind of dark and they are scans of pictures. First at Apex NC. Second pacing about 5 miles south of Apex, and the third at the Haw River Bridge (note the big 'Seaboard'lettering), which is about 10 miles north of Sanford, NC. Power was NS4807 (fresh Horsehead) and a ratty looking 6668 and spotless consist as follows (not in order): NS 40 POWER CAR - RESTRCTED TO 50 MPH NS 7 - PENNSYLVANIA NS 3 - CLAYTOR LAKE NS 21 - WEST VIRGINIA NS 18 - GENERAL WILLIAM MAHONE NS 19 - KENTUCKY NS 2 - CAROLINA NS 11 - ILLINOIS NS 12 - INDIANA NS 9 - ALABAMA NS 20 - OHIO Date: 06/11/05 19:53 Re: Rare mileage for NS OCS Author: SOU3921 Date: 06/11/05 19:53 Re: Rare mileage for NS OCS Author: SOU3921 |
