Rolling Stock Detection

Has any one out there use Circuitron's rolloing stock detector model DT-4 and if so please give the pro's and con's.

If this is the one I am thinking of, it has the light sensing detectors placed in the track? If so, I tried them a few years ago with very mixed results, enough mixed results that I took them all out. Wasn't worth the frustration. The biggest headache with them that I found was if there were shadows on the layout they would not work properly.
