Model Railroading > new Athearn ethanol tanks!!!

Just took the new Athearn 30,000 gal. ethanol tank cars out...they look great! They come out of the box with photo-etched walkways and all the grabs installed. Certainly a must for anyone modeling current operations.
They are available in a three pack or individualy w/ three numbers. There are several of both in-stock at MP. 38 Trains.
Come check them out, along with a weathering clinic tommorrow morning.

Yep, the LHS here in Atlanta received them today, both singles and three packs, 12#'s in all. They look fantastic!

Are they all "current" tanks with recent build dates and FRA reflective striping, or are there some of older vintage for earlier time periods (i.e., c. 1990)?

Other than the decorations, what would distinguish this car from ethanol tanks that were in service 15 years ago?

As for being a remake of the Athearn 62' chemical tank .... yeah, if you really think that, you're not looking very closely.

Yep, they are out. All 12 numbers. Now If you model 2003, you can't run these cars, they are for ultra modern operations only. Here is a quote from Athearn's website.

"To meet growing demand for new tank cars, UTLX Manufacturing has been expanding production capacity with a manufacturing facility in Alexandria, Louisiana. UTLX #205400 is the first car in the initial run from the new plant. The 30,000-gallon car is sized to stage the greatest number of cars at the producer's loading rack and still meet the 263,000-pound gross rail load limit. The Funnel-Flow(R) design facilitates complete bottom unloading."

OK, I'm satisfied that this is a very contemporary prototype.

Not that I don't have enough tank cars on my shelf as it is, anyway.

the ones I saw had the McHenry shelf coupler already installed, as well as "1993"
hazmat placards.
