Do the Athearn Ready-to-Run SD40-2s have overly think cabs like the old units they used to make, or have them improved them a la the cab on their SP SD45T-2?

Any info mucho apreciado!

The RTR SD40-2's released, including the six roadnames released last year, are the last Blue Box version (removed molded on grab irons, removed of the lug and hole mounting system, plastic handrails, etc.) with the model assembled.

However Athearn reps at shows have unofficially announced a new version with see through fans, 81", 88" and high nose options, the SD50 cab, plastic fuel tanks, and mods as done to the RPP shells (removal of things like grills and replacement with separate parts). Included in the first run are the Milwaukee bicentennial 156 and Southern high-hood units. They are supposed to be out in the fall.

They've also done the same with the SD40T-2 and the Tunnel motor is supposedly ahead of the SD40-2 in the production process, again according the Athearn Reps at the recent shows.
