How many paint schemes did the SDP45 come in or is in now?

Let's see, SP had original and speed lettering for the EL units, GN, BN, EL, CR and I think that's it.

Helm picked up at least one ex-EL/CR SDP45 and it was painted in the red/blue scheme. I can't remember if it was HLCX 6513 or 6515. I shot it several times in the 90's. I'm sure one of the roster guys on here knows if it is still around or not.

The EL/CR SDP45's went to the N&W and ran for a while. They received N&W initials but were never repainted into full N&W markings.

I read the list of roadnames/paint schemes, but when is a SDP45 not a SDP45? As far as I know, only SP and GN had passenger units (the "P" in SDP). The others that y'all listed (e.g., EL,, CR, etc.) were SD45s on SDP45 frames, never equipped for passenger service, and had different long hood ends.

See www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=180 for photos of the various versions and paint schemes.

In no particular order, passenger and non-passenger SDP45 paint schemes complied mainly from one of the frequent threads on the Atlas forum:

GN big sky blue
BN patched GN big sky blue
BN green/black
NRL patched BN green/black (#6592)
EL gray/maroon/yellow
EL bicentennial (#3638)
CR patched EL gray/maroon/yellow
CR patched EL bicentennial (#6669)
CR
NW patched CR
SP
SP Kodachrome
SP speed lettering (SD40M-2 rebuilt ex-EL units)
UP patched ex-SP speed lettering (?)
UP
UP lightning stripe
HLCX blue/red
VMV patched ex-Conrail
MKCX patched ex-Conrail
MKCX blue with white stripe
WC patched ex MKCX blue with white stripe
WC maroon/yellow (repaint of above unit)
AARX patched ex WC

Lastly, this one doesn't really count because it was wrecked and rebuilt with a new nose, cab, and SD45-2 long hood but there is MRL 332 (originally EL 3657) in patched ex- M-K blue with gold stripe. After the rebuild I believe it was still classed as an SDP45.

BN_FAN has about as thorough a list as I could but to add to this last comment there were 2 of these guys 3657 and the 3667 was also in involved in that wreck in Ohio I can't recall which one but one retained its cab and nose got a 45-2 long hood only the other was rebuilt frame up with all -2 nose cab and hood

For the SDP45, add also three lettering variations of SP red and gray (non-speed lettering):

1) As-delivered with small road numbers on short nose.
2) Early small "SP" block lettering on short nose.
3) Standard post-1970 larger "SP" block lettering on nose.

Cheers,
Harry

No this is why I asked, see there is a market for these engines. With the way Athearn has been doing the SD's in HO lately it just fits right in line that they should really consider doing the SDP45 in the Genesis series or even the Ready-to-Roll line.I think there is plenty of different road names to justify releasing this model not considering the folks who do fantasy schemes also.I mean look at all the different schemes the SD45-2 has now and Athearn hasn't even scratched the surface with those.Anyway just food for thought.Thank you for everyones input.

Re: SDP45

Justification: the upcoming SP passenger cars (wouldn't a mail storage car be nice to go along with them - San Joaquin Daylight running over La Mase anybody?)

Fastasization:
NP black and yellow (w/ 4 window cab side and nose gyralight)
NYC lightning stripe (w/train control box in front of the cab)
New Haven (always been a fan of McGinnis and the orange 4 stripe schemes)
UP (maybe even with the Challenger brown roof instead of grey)
Milwaukee (et especto hiawathum)
CP (maroon and grey script)
CN (yellow and green)
SF (ala U-28CG / FP 45)
Southern (Crescent green and Tuxedo colors)
I really shouldn't but ... Amtrak (pick one or several)
Ontario Northland (just because)
N&W (high nose and long hood forward of course)
D&H (need I say more?)
Texas & Pacific (for Shane and the guys) + Katy, MP
IC(ICG) black with green diamond, orange and white, death star freight version
L&N (scallop scheme)
RF&P (odd numbers face south?)
FEC speedway colors
ACL purple and silver

Anybody else ?

TCS - click and drag race
