Let's see, the original date was March 2007? That is quite a delay. Hope they really nail this one good with all that time.

Here is the other problem that BLI-PC don't realize. The initial Coast Daylight of March 21, 1937 was pulled by GS-2 steam locomotives numbered #4410-4415. Two of the six locomotives were assigned as helpers over Cuesta, so that even the helpers were painted in Daylight paint. These six locomotives were replaced on the Daylight by the GS-3 steam locomotives numbered #4416-4429 during 1937. GS-4 steam locomotives were delivered by July 10, 1941. By 1941 the passenger equipment had changed to what BLI is putting out.

I don't get it why they are doing a 1937 Daylight with GS-4 locomotives.

As far as I can tell BLI/PCM is doing the 1941 car set which is right for the GS-4, they are doing the 1941 car set in the pre-war "Southern Pacific Lines" with skirts and the post war "Souther Pacific" with out skirts.

I think where the confusion comes from is that Athearn announced that they were going to do the 1937 Daylight set that had been downgraded to the San Joaquin Daylight.

I must be missing where they state that the cars are from the 1937 "Daylight." My understanding is that they were producing the later, 79' cars.

I wonder what they will do about those train indicators? "X4449" would be great for the restored engine, but in "Daylight" service the train indicators would show either "98" or "99". But, whatever they include, it'll be wrong for someone, unless they include a decal with various numbers (including 96 and 97 for the "Noon Daylight," 51 and 52 for the "San Joaquin Daylight," 69 and 70 for "The Coaster" and other assignments that the GS-4 received).

I also wonder if any provisions have been made for relocating the train indicators for those modeling these engines after they were moved rearward.

Here's what I don't get. How many Big Boy models have been produced over the years? Challengers? Daylight (GS)? NYC Hudsons? You would think they would veer a little from the beaten path. Of course they have done Santa Fe 2-10-2s and 3751 class, UP 4-8-2s and a lot of PRR stuff in plastic or die cast, but to keep releasing the same old stuff? It's kind of like TV. One show comes out and 37 others copy it.
Of course I realize nobody is going to placate me by doing any Frisco steam, but a nice 4500 Northern............Hmmm.

Which is easier to correct--number boards or the whole drive system?

Up till now, only Botchmann made a GS in plastic.

NYC Hudsons would be nice, but not a J1, how about a J3 with scullen Disk Drivers and a PT Tender? I am still waiting for C&NW E-3's and E-4's.

You do have a point. However my Bachmann Plus drive system is surprisingly smooth. (and it's been hard at work long before the PCM or MTH stuff was on the drawing board.) I guess you have to go with what's available at the time.
