Cheers, Harry Date: 11/13/09 21:40 Re: trainfest 2009 day 1 Author: rrhistorian Is the Midwestern-themed traction modular layout at the show this year? They have reduced the number of shows that they attend in recent years but they were still trying to make it out to Trainfest the last I heard. It is a great layout that really captures the spirit of Midwest interurban lines.

Martin Young Date: 11/14/09 01:44 Re: trainfest 2009 day 1 Author: MrMRL Check out the onboard accident camera mounted behind the windows on the Athearn Genesis SD70ACe! Never seen that detail before. Nice. Also like the isolated cabs.

This year I brought my 1937 Lionel "OO" layout to run all weekend. It is really hard to get into trainfest. I plan on setting up free-mo at Train-time in March at the MSOE Mike Slater Date: 11/14/09 03:41 Re: trainfest 2009 day 1 Author: wc581 tracktime Wrote:

One thing that stood out for me atleast is on the rear of the unit, even though the vents on the end of the unit are going to be molded on, the part it self will fit into the opening allowing for replacement with see thru grills.
Also I asked about the conductors side cabinet, the vents and or x panels are interchangeable so that road specific versions can be modeled without completely tooling a new shell, so we can expect sd70m-2's and the isolated cabs aswell since we all know how emd likes to change their locomotives into 1000 different versions. As for the ditch lights I was told those will be the size that they will actually be and yes bulbs will be fitted into them but for people like me a micro LED will end up inside them, lastly I asked about sound soundtraxx is recording new sounds specific to the as70ace if you have heard a tsunami diesel decoder you know that it will be of high quality sound and yes a dc version will be available. Expect a announcement around December 2009 on these locomotives and actually delivery sometime early to mid 3rd quarter 2010. BTW it would be wise for those who hate the wood block shipping method to insist on the plastic sleeve packaging via email. On a side note testors was at the show they are asking for suggestions on future paints, I couldnt resist and had to ask for SP&S Yellow and BSB Green Grey. If you cant make it to the show hop on testors website and express your interest in new paint. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/14/09 17:40 by Afbombers. Good suggestion, but what is BSB Green Grey? If they are doing SP&S Yellow then I would like to see the SP&S Green too. Through your discussion and analysis on the SD70ACe, did you by any chance ask about doing the Mining variations of this model? I looked at the pilot model and there does not seem to be any provision for the low markers and number boards. The extra horn would not be too big of a deal to do. BHP Billiton has 55 of the SD70ACe and word is they are ordering another 18 and it looks like Quebec Cartier is getting 5 of them so I suspect QC will have the same prototype variations. I guess it would be too much to hope for to have the Australian variations because they have window protectors, stairwell plates that fold over for the Maintenance workshops and double railings on each with a mid height railing. Believe it or not, they would sell and likely sell out. Too bad Athearn isn't doing the Little Joe. Rick Date: 11/14/09 19:19 Re: trainfest 2009 day 1 Author: Afbombers the BSB green grey is the color used on great northern big sky locos on the upper portion and on the underframe, its not quite a true green nor a grey the true color is highly debatable and often in many shades. The walthers color is more of a darker grey than green and athearns is more lighter green, again the best thing to do is to email testors and encourage new colors because they are asking people for requests.
I did not ask about the mining versions, I wouldnt be supprised if they did do that version. |
