Model Railroading > help with decoder selectionDate: 02/07/11 19:15 help with decoder selection Author: mmrailfan I bought an Athearn Ready to Roll ATSF GP60M #142 in Warbonnet scheme. It states on the box that it is DCC Quick Plug Equipped, but which decoder do I buy for this? I would like to add sound too. Thanks for any suggestions.

KG Date: 02/08/11 04:27 Re: help with decoder selection Author: acltrainman I personally use the Digitrax DH123D on my Athearn RTR DCC Ready units.
Stan Date: 02/08/11 05:39 Re: help with decoder selection Author: brfriedm If you want a decoder only, TCS T1A.
If you want sound, Tsunami GN-1000. 828052 TSU-GN1000 EMD 710 Bruce Date: 02/08/11 13:26 Re: help with decoder selection Author: rminer A little late in the game but I prefer NCE D13SRJ decoders for my Athearn equipment. I've had really good luck with them and they've been really easy to program.

I just fitted a T1 to a Bachmann Branchline OO gauge loco (steam loco with split frame - ugh!) and it works a treat, that back emf allows incredible crawling at step one and what they call dither seems to overcome any hesitant starts.
