Model Railroading > SP/UP Snow Fighter equipmentDate: 02/25/12 15:33 SP/UP Snow Fighter equipment Author: cmgnnut Thanks guys for all the info I've been collecting on these
Just finished getting a Brass Spreader and a Flanger now all I need are the GP'S and SD's to go with them Any for sale ?? Date: 02/25/12 21:43 Re: SP/UP Snow Fighter equipment Author: Arved Might want to wait and see what Athearn is going to do with the Genesis GP38-2. An SP unit is in the first run, which, like the SP did, could be modified for snow fighting service. Maybe, eventually, they'll do one out of the box.

I'd start with a LL/P2K SD9 and the Details West detail kit, but you're on your own to fabricate the icicle breakers. http://www.detailswest.com/spdiesels_info.htm http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/4326 http://dieseldetailer.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gen1&action=display&thread=5875 http://www.pbase.com/dh30973/image/35046894 Date: 03/02/12 18:17 Re: SP/UP Snow Fighter equipment Author: drgwguy The icicle breakers are not impossible with some brass and patience. I've done one set. They are a bit 'thick' for prototype specs, but are more managable for functionality and handling (re: folding up and down).
I,too, would probably wait and see what Athearn releases before I got crazy on the 38s, and agree that the P2K SD9s w/ the DW kits are perfect. Just keep in mind that not ALL SD9s got the Farr filter box. Good luck, Rick |
