NICE!
Any chance the sound units will be offered separately? I have a bunch of PFE reefers that sure could use the Detroit Diesel sound unit. ;-)

Probably have to check with Soundtraxx. They should be selling them separately.

I'll heartily echo this request. I've got a huge group of non-FGE PFE reefers that need sound as well. Of course, we'll also have to get the new trucks with the electrical pickups too.

I'll pick up a couple of FGEs in the meantime. =)

Best Regards,
Harry

About Effing Time !!! Only been asking for these cars forever. Just wish they would have been done three years ago before the inflationary prices took hold, now they are a bit spendy. Probably will call it good with a couple of the FGE "Solid Cold" reefers.

I don't know about this... when I think of scale here, seems like you'd barely be able to hear the sound of the compressors on the cars.

Even on the prototype the cars have to be going by at a pretty slow speed to hear the reefers running in most cases.

Of course, with a little bit of work, I'm sure this could be expaned in scope to include sounds for flat wheels and grinding flanges...

Well, I'm sure I'll be going for some of those FGE Solid Cold cars, too....

The biggest problem I see is taxing the layout's power supply with a large number of these in a train plus locomotives with sound. I'll surely purchase a few but between lighted cabooses, locos with sound and sound-equipped reefers, how long will it be before we have every freight car available with the sound of squealing wheels and rolling wheels and the usual banging sounds of a passing train - and with it the need for a 10amp HO power supply...lol. Having said all that, nice idea Athearn, on the reefers.

I'm more likely to get some of these than DCC boxcars with fake flat-spot or flange-squeal sounds. Now, get me a lumber load that smells like freshly cut fir and we'll talk....

I wonder if there is any chance these will be done in N scale as well?

I'm surprised they're finally get the Solid Cold Cars. I got an Athern Real Cold Car and I'm just happy I got one, but still a sound decorder on the Genisis? That's cool, I can't wait to get one myself when it comes out!

How many times have you sat at a crossing watching and listening to a train go by and heard these generators, flat spots on wheel, the creaks and groans of the cars etc? Interesting.
