Model Railroading > Athearn will do all NS Heritage units

Many details differ from their current '70ACe so they will basically have to make a new shell. They have to be commended for this to make the units accurate. They will use their AC4400 to do the GE heritage units and this probably won't make some people happy.

wow....talk about attention to detail Athearn!! does it come with real smelling crap dripping out of the crapper pipe too!!?

I hope they do other "plain" NS ACe's also.

WOW , all out for the ACE with many changes, then the ES44AC heritage unit turns into a AC4400 RTR. one can never own enough Intermountain Gevo's .....Steve (up6553)

Yup, if I were interested in these models at all, I'd be all about the heritage EMDs, but would look elsewhere for the GEs rather than buy foobies.

How many years will it take Athearn to produce them all?

Do they even have all the UP Heritage units out yet?

I;m totally shocked at the AC4400 heritage. I have many MTH and IM loco's. Athearn did a GREAT job on their ACE's and M-2's also.I"m sure the heritage units will also be great,but come on
a heritage AC. Bottom line i think Athearn wants to be the first to have them. Steve

Not yet. SP and DRGW could come later this year. CNW unit, not until 2013.

I bet a million dollars that MTH has all of the Heritage SD70Aces in stores before the first Athearn gets on the boat!

What pisses me off is when I asked Reps from Athearn if they would ever do the SD70 with the flair radiator and "pork chop" cab, I was told "Probably not. That would mean would have to totally re-do the SD70 dyes to make that version" . It's OK to do it for the Aces but not the earlier version SD70M. AND I BELIEVED THEM!! (Of course, in my defense it IS an election year)

With 20 units, they smell a "collector series" opportunity -- and apparently, for the GEs, a sucker opportunity.

So, Athearn said it was unlikely that they would revise the molds for the SD70, but were considering revising the molds for the ES44s to allow for revisions. Which sounds like a factual representation of the company's current business plan. And you accuse them of lying. Nice. I get that you'd like a revised SD70, but to accuse Athearn of not being honest just because its future plans don't appear to align with your wishes is completely uncalled for.

I applaud Athearn for working over the ACe's but to put out an AC4400 as NS heritage? I understand the marketing strategy here, but it just seems like they are coming off either as ignorant or just don't care what customers really want, and that is the NS heritage GE"s as the ES44's and not the AC4400's. Just my two cents.....

So 6 years for 6 units...so we are looking at somewhere around 2032 before they have all the NS heritage units out?

What's your point? They're still doing the GEs as AC4400 foobies. I never believe the release dates on these announcements because they're rarely accurate.

What's your point, if you don't like them don't buy them.
Would love to see them do the GE's with Gevos, maybe in time.
