Bachmann I-Hobby Announcements SD70ACe and ES44AC in HO
Author: Tony_Cook

Bachmann will have all new tooling HO-scale SD70ACe and ES44AC models in its DCC on Board Sound Value series in 2013. Ten of Norfolk Southern's 30th Anniversary Heritage Locos will be the first of the new models.

Thanks for the news Tony.

Will there actually be a replacement for Thomas?

Being cynical, I'm amazed no one has yet asked how accurate
the new Heritage engines will be...

Their revised F7, and new GP7/9 and Alco S4 models are a very good start! They've done a fabulous Chinese export version of a GE C36-7, so I know they have it in them! Boy, if they pull a "LifeLike", it will definitely be a game changer!

PS - Here's some links to that Chinese model -

In fact, if you go here, you can see all kinds of examples of the high level of tooling that Bachmann is capable of:

What a waste, tons of other engines that can be done and all these manufacturers are beating each other senseless over these GEVO's and ACe's.....

I'm sure there will be a market for the $60 DCC On Board version. Of the "missing" locomotive models I'd personally like to see produced, there's none I would buy at that price point because, well, you get what you pay for.

Yea, I agree. Yet not everyone can afford $300 bones for a locomotive. And not everyone is a rivet counter. There is a nitch for this market if you ask me. If not, the hobby may just price it's self into extinction.

These models will likely feature "enough" detail to satisfy the non rivet counters and at a reasonable price point. As much as I enjoy the $200 and $300+ models in my collection, they are just getting too expensive and I refuse to pay $60+ for a boxcar and $80 for a passenger car. Some of this stuff has just gotten ridiculous. I welcome the Bachmann entry, assuming it is decent.

That's certainly a shocker of an announcement. If done decently, I'd have to regard Bachmann a little higher.

I agree, I am GEVO'd and ACE'd out. Would like to see other modern locos myself.

Should be interesting to see what B'man offers. They have made modest improvements to the point I've been tempted by the RS3 and GP offered in D&RGW paint, but versions were a bit early for me.

Regarding the announcements, those are too new for me as I am sticking with 70's and 80's fairly religiously. There's enough on the market for that time frame to keep me hopping.

Why would this announcement, or any from Bachmann, make any difference to you? From what I've read, I didn't think you even considered Bachmann a contender. In fact, the only thing you seem to think Bachmann locomotives are good for are to be run over...

I'm an SP modeler, but considering I can model the entire Sodor Island - railroad and all - for what a single Glacier Park Models C-9 2-8-0 or F-4 2-10-2 costs, and still have money for beer, I have to admit, it's tempting.

Hell, I could probably do it for less than the cost of a UTI SDP45, even if I went out of my way to collect some of the more rare Thomas models.

Now that I think about it, if I buy everything at garage and estate sales, I could probably get quite a collection started for less than the cost of a single Exactrail covered hopper.

And I bet the operating sessions would be a lot more fun and spontaneous.

I think this is great. If I wait long enough for Bachmann to release UP and BNSF paint schemes, I won't have to go bankrupt to build a decent consist to simulate trains going over Donner, Tehachapi, Cajon, or any of the overpowered Z trains. Looks like this is my reward for being stingy on just two Intermountain GEVO's (BNSF 7695, UP 5441) and one SD70ACe (MTH's UP 1996).

Funny, i own 5 of them. Not the old crap -8w's and stuff that i once ran over. As well as some aux water tenders. And quite frankly if i want to bitch about it i will.... Just like those who want it support it.
