Rapido Trains will announce HO Canadian F9B
Author: Tony_Cook

Not yet officially announced, Rapido Trains will have a Canadian-prototype F9B in HO-scale. Announcement with price and delivery info will happen in the next month. For now, here's one of the first test shots of the pre-production samples. These models will see revisions prior to going into regular production, according Jason Shron at Rapdio Trains.

Unique-lookin' beasties! Jason and crew are to be congratulated again for their sterling efforts towards accuracy, and filling a need.

Stunning! Love those other-worldly steam generator details & other CN/VIA/GMD idiosyncrasies on these units. Impressive models, and the paint has yet to be applied!

Cheers,
Harry

Forgive me since I am south of the great white north border, but what is the B unit which shipped with the Canadian passenger train by Rapido? F7B?

That was a CP F9B. There are numerous spotting differences, such as the third porthole, different ends, different roof details, and the skirts beside the corner steps.

The CN F9B is wacko. There was never any other unit like it. Before I started Rapido I converted an Athearn F7B into a CN F9B. That was a HUGE amount of work. It's why I only ever did one... I needed to fill the portholes, add the louvers, add major steam generator details, add scratchbuilt roof details, change the end doors, and scrape off a lot of the end details to add in scratchbuilt panels in the centre, CN-style lights and weird angular things near the roof. (I'm still not sure what those are.)

I look forward to the day when I actually have a layout to run all the neat stuff we're manufacturing... :-)

Jason, has the next version of The Canadian (CP Rail / tomato stripe) begun shipping to dealers yet?

Jason,

Hah hah! Wacko is right! You can for sure see many spotting differences there. Was the new B unit also used on the Canadian?

Great job as always, aye!

The late model F-units that both CP and CN had for their passenger trains were very interesting real life kit bash's. I'd like to see more photos and understand them better.

I always thought it was similar to putting a high-rise manifold onto a Chevy Vega and having to move everything else around to make it all fit.

Those make Athearn Genesis F's look like Tycos
