Model Railroading > NS's new safety cabsDate: 12/12/12 15:07 NS's new safety cabs Author: drgwguy Hello everyone. I was curious if anybody on here knew of somebody producing these cabs or knows somebody with drawings that include dimensions? I beleive they are called Crescent cabs?
Thanks for any help, Rick F. Posted from iPhone Rick Fourroux Littleton, CO Railfan Models Date: 12/12/12 15:15 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: NSTopHat Which cab are you talking about? NS has two new cab designs they are using. One is called teh "Admiral" cab which is a modified spartan cab along with a new nose. These have been primarly built onto SD40-2's, and of late a couple of cabbed road slubs / mates. The SD60E cab is a different beast in itself and so far has been limited to the SD60 rebuild program. The SD40E program, which is rebuild SD50S's and SD50's used their original cabs.

To my knowlegde, neither cab design has been drawn for publication. I would suspect, with the release of the Veterans unit, that Diesel Era will perform a walk around article within the next few issues. For both models, the backwall of the cabs were not moved, so a decent side-on shot would work dimensionally. IIRC, Diesel Era has provided a square side-on shot of an SD40-2 with the admiral cab, basically from the back of the front truck to beyond the front pilot. I do not know which issue that would have been in. You may be able to get an issue # from Withers if you e-mail them. No drawing's are available at this time. That don't help much, maybe trying to contact Curry supply. Bill Date: 12/13/12 06:15 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: EspeeGoldenState NSTopHat Wrote:

If someone can measure these cabs and build a CAD doc, it could be given to a 3D printer for printing.

Date: 12/13/12 10:08 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: schmo Re the ex-Conrail C40-8 with the new Admiral cab: are they really going to start fitting these cabs to C-C GEs now? I'm curious to see the final product--could be oooooooooogly or pretty nice. Depends on what other touches they do or do not add to the unit. Should be interesting at any rate.
One thing I like about NS is that they sure have a great variety of units which is expanding all time. I love it! Date: 12/13/12 10:14 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: bioyans schmo Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > Re the ex-Conrail C40-8 with the new Admiral cab: That's not the Admiral cab. The Admiral cab is the new standard cab found on the SD40-2's. Date: 12/13/12 11:14 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: MrOGDEN The "Crescent " cabs are the ones being used on the C40-8 and the SD60Es. The "Admiral" cabs are being used on the SD40-2's ,a few slugs and now in the process the GP59E . Hope this helps.

Larry Date: 12/14/12 05:44 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: hotmetal-train Hey Larry, OOO yes I agree 100%. I was just wondering about the modifications, it would appear the roof support is much better,so does this help with absorbing the impact?
Date: 12/14/12 07:54 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: PHall I can see how the new design would have much stouter collision posts in the nose.
But the overhanging number board assembly??? What purpose does that serve? Date: 12/14/12 19:22 Re: NS's new safety cabs Author: ts1457 PHall Wrote:
