Back when I started watching trains...
Author: pmack

This is what I saw. Since modeling is not living in the "now" I tried to recreate it with some DIY focus stacking in Elements. I learned some things so the next one will be better.

The train is SD40 6303, B30-7A 4106 and SD40-2 7828 and some Intermountain grain cars.

I also found myself wondering how often those Twinkies turned up in grain service, but the modeling is very well done.

I remember days like those in the early-mid 1990's. One element you are missing is a leased EMD SD40 or SD40-2. For a time it seemed you couldn't find a grain train without one. Eventually I will buy a Kato Conrail SD40 and paint over the Conrail markings and add the EMD decals.

You could also cover that with a Morrison-Knudsen SD40 or SD45.

Nice one, talk about prototype. Eastbound Toston, MT '87.

Very well done. I like the detail on the 6303. It has -2 style dynamic brakes just like the prototype. Great models and image!

Thanks, all, for the compliments. Thanks, Al for noticing the dynamics, I didn't think anyone ever would. I was happy to see I could get rid of the RPP part but the Athearn SD40-2 part is narrower. A couple pieces of styrene and a little putty took care of it though.

JB, thanks for the photo at Toston, that is what I remember.

Next time I'll put a on leasor and take off the Twinkie.
