In the Tehachapis

I hope you all had a good Easter. I spent the day operating trains on the La Mesa Model RR Club's Tehachapi line in the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. Here are a few glimpses of the day's activity.

1. Mojave-bound SP freight with 6 units, 42 cars + caboose, is holding the siding at Woodford, waiting to resume its grind up the grades toward the summit. The scenery and structures at Woodford have only recently been completed. An electrician was due in yesterday to install new lighting.
2&3. Woodford detail.

4. Back on the main, the train is seen making its way around the loop at Walong. The motors are working hard pulling the grade. The noise from the 9s is especially sweet!
5. Continuing upgrade, with a view of the classic SP signal bridge in the cut near the portal for tunnel 9.
6. Approaching the turnout for Walong siding, heading to tunnel 10.

7-9. With the searchlight signal in the background, the train makes its way under the telltale before tunnel 10. It's just great to be trackside!

10. It won't be long now.
11, 12. Sure enough!

13. Back at Woodford, the Bakersfield-bound train encounters a SP switch job with two SD7s, a long way from their former home on the Peninsula.
14, 15. Making steady progress at Allard, the engineer is confident all will go well, and he will have the train tied down in the SP Bakersfield Yard soon enough.

16, 17. The train is making good progress through Tunnel 2.
18. Approach to Tunnel 1. Caliente is just down the hill.

19-21. Further along, a Santa Fe freight under control with 3 GP7s threads its way through Caliente Creek Canyon. Another clear signal indicates smooth passage to Ilmon.

That's all for now. I hope you have enjoyed this little series. Thanks for looking.

That was a cruel tease to throw in that Santa Fe train at the end.

Sorry! The Santa Fe photos weren't intended as a tease. It was nearing closing time at the museum; so, these were my last shots. Had to take everything to the barn and pack up.

But, from another day, here we have ….
