Model Railroading > Athearn RTR SD 40Date: 07/19/14 07:46 Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: dgraves The info is posted on the Athearn web site. Quite a few road specific details. All new chassis as well as she'll. roads are BNSF, CB&Q, Chessie, N&W i(2 schemes), DW&P, & UP(60's scheme). Kind of surprised that they are not doing SP in the first round.

These engines were common on Q trains and later on BN trains. Gee, do I want two or three?
I do have two Kato units, but they are not as detailed as these will be. Nice to see this model. Steve Barkley, MMR Date: 07/19/14 09:19 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: obsessedfoamer The Espee "rebuild" version will be a joke.
Not excited. Date: 07/19/14 09:31 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: atsf5704 obsessedfoamer Wrote:

Date: 07/19/14 09:58 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: obsessedfoamer If they do one, I'm sure it will be a "incorrect" SD40R wannabe. Just like the SD45R's they tried to pull off.

That’s the way things are done these days, right? Can you also predict winning lottery numbers? I’d sure like to have some, once you’ve collected your share of course. The new SD40 looks quite nice on its own merits, not even comparing it to the horrid RPP-based version. And that’s all I ask of a model, that it have “good bones.” Should I find something that needs tweaking or modification to my own eye, I can do that, without having to build the whole thing myself. But it’s rude and baseless comments like yours that make visiting forums like this one an unpleasant experience, and why I do so, and contribute, far less than I did in the past. I can give you as many as you like. I just can't say when they'll come up. > The new SD40 looks quite nice on its own merits, > not even comparing it to the horrid RPP-based > version. All the info is on Athearn's website. Price is $184.98 with sound and $134.98 non-sound Cheers, Jim Date: 07/19/14 12:53 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: antlorch What gets me is people now-a-days wanting a completely detailed model for pennies. You cant have it both ways, if you wanted a cheap model still then stop asking for super detailed road specific engines. If you want all the bells and whistles the your going to pay for it.
I would say I am a pretty good modeler (nothing close to the greats of today) but pretty good none the less. If I built a model for someone I would $150 right out the door, that's just my time, this is not including the model or parts or paint. So for the price of today's detailed RTR engines from the factory with sound, I believe your getting a good deal. The blue box days are over,if you do not like that then sorry, they ain't coming back. Date: 07/19/14 13:05 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: gandydancer4 WOW!! It sound like someone didn't take their Colace today. Anyway, if you would put ANY Genesis unit nest to say a 1990s piece of brass with the same nomenclature, I can assure you that the plastic will look, run and sound better at HALF the price (adjusted for inflation). Which brings me to another topic. Do you want to run 'em or put'em on a wall?

You don't have to compare a Genesis unit to '90's brass, you can compare it to today's offerings (what little there are) and in most cases the fidelity of detail is better in, PLASTIC... Andy Date: 07/19/14 17:51 Re: Athearn RTR SD 40 Author: Alexmarissa Is this model converted to LED lighting yet?
