ExactRail, All-new model at the UPHS Convention!
Author: choochooboy

ExactRail is at the Union Pacific Historical Society (UPHS) Annual Convention! Blaine Hadfield is the dinner speaker at the convention event, and he will discuss the development of recent ExactRail products.

Furthermore, he will introduce an all-new freight car!

The UPHS convention dinner is in Ogden, Utah on August 2nd. We wish to thank the Union Pacific Historical Society for the opportunity to present. We are looking forward to it!

Best regards,

Blaine Hadfield

Most railroad historical societies are happy just to get an existing model painted for them. The UP gets their own car?

Lets hope it is a car other railroads used.

Now let all the guessing begin.

I'm not a huge UP fan so I don't know what's missing for them or what needs a better version.

But I'm sure Exactrail will do a great job and UP guys should be happy.

Thanks for the info Blaine! I really wish I could have gone this year.

As far as "what's missing?" - easy - the 34-foot "slab sided" ballast cars, the HK-50-3 and HK-50-4. UP had several thousand such cars all over the system in various services from the 1930s into the 70s. Yes, other roads ran similar cars.

Based on what Blaine says, I think this new car will be in addition to the flat car referenced above (at the NMRA Show 7/15). I am a UP fan and love the ExactRail cars I have purchased in the past, so it will be exciting to see what what happens. I hope it includes an N-scale version. They really make nice cars.

Thank you for your compliments, Bruce! Yes, our announcement this weekend is in addition to our announcements made at the National Train Show!

Many thanks,

Hmmm... an announcement at the UPHS convention.

It's got to be a Quebec, North Shore and Labrador ore hopper!

Kweeee-beck? Where's that?

As long as we're speculating, I'm going to go with an ACF 4600 cuft covered hopper, UP class CH-100-36 (photo 1). That model would of course be good for a few dozen other roadnames too.

I think a PS 5250 cuft class CH-125-3 covered hopper would be great too (photo 2), but probably less likely.

Then there's the Thrall 3250 cuft covered hopper, UP class CH-110-001 (photo 3), which is a good contemporary prototype that would work for a bunch of other owners too.

BTW, I think we're all driving Blaine crazy - he's starting to talk about himself in the third person! :)

Ha ha! I totally deserve that!

I wrote the copy as a part of the blog on our webpage. Then, it was cut and paste to the forums--didn't even see the third person!

Two wild guesses... an ACF 4460cf Centerflow, or a PC&F 7633cf exterior post appliance boxcar. UP had both car types, the 4460s being ex-RI. If not now, I believe we'll see these cars from ExactRail eventually.

her's one that might be a good challenge for ya,how about turnout cars like southern railway used to have,ns still uses them???? or the welded rail cars???? folks would need a dozen or more to make up a good train for the welded rail ones. just thoughts if you are getting into specialty mow stuff. i would think up has similar cars....

Whats next up on the master list that is a UP specific car? Seems they have been moving down that list at a pretty good clip.

Pretty specific to the Camas Prairie RR, but what about a model of a U.P. gondola log car?
