Model Railroading > ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans?Date: 08/18/14 10:48 ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: Mgoldman Excuse me if this was posted or asked before - just wondering
if anyone heard plans in regards to an HO model in the near future? /Mitch Date: 08/18/14 20:34 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: KV1guy Negative ghostrider.

Date: 08/19/14 08:28 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: mcdeo I asked the similar question a while ago. The response was that there could be adaptations to the engines over time. I figured, why not get in as many years of scale production as possible with an engine that should be around for 20, 30, or more years. But I can see the point, if outside changes over the first couple of years due to 'field updates', then the models would be needing phases and new molds/parts.
Or...the manufactures could just do another GEVO, SD70ACe, F unit, and SD40-2, instead of doing a niche regional only engine. ;-) Mike ONeill Parker, CO Date: 08/19/14 21:40 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: Mgoldman mcdeo Wrote:

To my knowledge, no, but then again, it was some time before Atlas put out the model. Still - the E-60's were made by Bachmann and Atlas also put out HHP-8s. Seemed high risk, but I'm glad they did it and I have added them to my collection. That they'll be around for 20 or 30 years might imply there's plenty of time to still make a profit but as they are being introduced, there is a lot of excitement. Heck - they could even make one painted up as UP as featured in Trains magazine, lol. Oh, well - for now, rats - hoped I had just missed an announcement. /Mitch Date: 08/20/14 16:47 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: rwa14 Mgoldman Wrote:

One minor correction there, Atlas made the ALP-44's and AEM-7's (Which bothare being re-run in current liveries and fantasy, ie: DL&W) Bachmann made the HHP-8'S and E60's. Walthers and American GK also produced an E60 some years ago. I have a NJT Walthers version. As for the ACS-64, I could see either Bachmann or more likely MTH, in both O and HO, producing one. MTH has produced the ALP-46 in the past. Date: 08/20/14 18:31 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: Mgoldman That's right - Bachmann did the HHP-8 as well as the Acela.
Atlas did the AEM-7's. I didn't know MTH had an interest in limited production models other then steam. I get the impression Atlas didn't make a bundle on the AEM-7's - seem to recall a lot of sales on the AEM-7's. Get'm while you can kind of sales and pricing at 1/2 off. Glad to here they are still in production. Maybe Con-cor? Maybe something similar already exists based on the European version. /Mitch Incidentally, I just remembered, I built a prototype some time ago and had posted a video right here on TO's. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,3157617,3157994#msg-3157994 Date: 08/20/14 19:26 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? As for the Atlas fantasy schemes for the AEM-7's: http://www.highcountryhobbies.com/atlas-ho-10001666-reading-aem-7-dcc-ready-2302/ Ouch - quite a bit more money then my collection which I picked up at $39.95! /Mitch Date: 08/21/14 20:10 Re: ACS-64 Cities Sprinter in HO? Any plans? Author: HB90MACH The fantasy schemes are plausible what ifs considering all three had electrified territory. And two had commuter service

Yes, they were rebuilt between 1999 and 2002 to use AC power and redesignated as AEM7ACs, with the Atlas model representing the original configuration. I think there was an article in RMC a while back in which the author updated the model to represent a rebuilt unit, but I'm not sure. I know I've seen seen a couple examples of models online that have been updated. Here's a good online overview of the kitbash: https://sites.google.com/site/marylindsayrr/home/custom-projects/aem7ac However, I'm not aware of any changes during original production of the AEM-7, so Atlas didn't have to worry about variations in the prototype as-delivered. Praying to heavens that it's NOT MTH.........sound and self-raising pantographs are nice, but a locomotive under $200 (I don't care about sound) is much nicer!!!! Also, when did they do an ALP-46? In HO? The only thing I know about are the ALP-46 shells produced by IHP..... |
