"Mini-Hopper" on the CBRL
Author: WOPRJim

Spotted this MOW set-up (as well as another hyrail pickup truck following) spreading ballast on the way home yesterday near Coos Bay, Oregon. Just goes to show there's a prototype for everything! More details on the "Western" page.

Reminds me of the dump truck road raiders that were tested I think in Minnesota.

From what I read they were very successful, but the intended contract which they were to be needed for never panned out.

I had wondered if they would make good for use in major road construction projects or contract ballast work. Think of a train of 100 dump trucks moving down the rails instead of on the congested roads already bogged down from being torn up.

My thought was perhaps RJ Corman or Hulcher on wreck jobs.

I never considered short lines but it seems like a perfect fit.
