Model Railroading > Work in Progress - INRD 9025 (25th Anni SD9043MAC)

So it has been about 3 weeks since I first showed off my work in progress Indiana Railroad 25th anniversary SD9043MAC. Time for an update, don't ya think?

The model exterior is essentially complete now, save for any weathering and the soon to happen LED wiring. Most of the larger decals are from Highball Graphics including the white and black pinstripes. There are numerous extra smaller data decals from Microscale's EMD data and SD70ACe data sets. The model was then sealed with a light misting of Testors Glaze to bring out the gray areas and help that factory Kato red shine a tad more. Not too many modifications required for the model except for the repositioning of the forward ditchlights from pilot to deck mounting with Details West parts. Other added details include Details West train-line hoses front and rear, etched metal side view mirrors, spare knuckles on the rear pilot, and a late model air dryer filter. Many of the plastic grabirons and handrails also received small paint touchups to match prototype photos.

Weathering comes next (unless I fall in love with that showroom floor finish..), then wiring of Richmond Controls 1mm SMLEDS, just like my other two standard INRD 90MACs.

Aww, but I just gotta add a little grunge and soot to the fans and grills, perhaps rust up those mirror polished 44" wheels at least??

*best part is that all the red is still the factory Kato INRD 9005 red.

Perhaps just a kiss of brown summer thunder storm road grime along the under frame,trucks and plow.

A beautiful model. Love the pictures. 2015 will be 40 years for my Tidewater Southern. I too chose an SD90 to do the honors. I will share pics shortly.

I tend to agree but the raised walkway above the equipment boxes behind the cab tends to break up the warbonnet pattern. maybe the classic ATSF masking pattern is best seen on smooth side locomotives.

Modelers have to follow the prototype and Robby is doing so well with that.

True, and wrapping that red warbonnet curve (and black pinstripe) around all that extra hardware behind the cab was a bit of a challenge, especially on the conductor's side. I do like the thin red line extending all the way to the back though. Again very reminiscent of ATSF Warbonnet.
