Open comment to Model Railroader (Kalmbach)

I really enjoy the mags and effort you put into them , but like the last time I subscribed I am getting choked with emails and the constant barrage of them, I have 4-5 months to go on this subscription and am starting to relish not renewing, can you change this ? Thanks, I'll keep the subscription IF the emails stop, thanks again, Ed

Should be a place at the bottom of the emails to opt out of them

Go in to your e-mail account and mark them as junk. Then they will always go to your junk box and not your in box. You can always go look in your junk box if you need one of the old e-mails on something such as renewal.

I just did the same thing this morning. I got tired of all the emails they kept sending.-BMT

I hope the irony is not lost here.

Carstens closes, and Kalmbach's "acceptable persistence" in e-marketing is met with an open letter of complaint, when the user has independent control as has been suggested and advised.

Print will die without us. And especially if we believe that the only information of interest is stuff we're already interested in. The necessarily broader spectrum of print articles and the selectivity and knowledge base of its editors are a valuable filter for the rushing river of information that we all navigate daily.

Kalmbach needs to market or we'll be reading another obit next. Instead of complaining about that, buy a subscription to keep one more voice alive. Do it as a gesture of solidarity for the general hobby we love. And if there's not a thing of interest to you there, not one piece of useful learning for the modest relative investment in our general community, I would be surprised.

When subscribing to MR online, there is a little box to UNcheck if you don't wish to receive a barrage of junk mail and polls.

I should also be clear: some of Kalmbach's marketing pushes are pretty aggressive in style anywhere beyond the world of timeshare sales and political fundraising! But they gotta do what they gotta do. We can always opt out.

I like print editions far better than e editions. For one thing, they're easier to use whilst on the throne.

And try using your cell phone, PC, or IPad in the place of Charmin.

A study just released this week shows that people learn better through reading print then online. or e readers.

To quote composer/musician Max Reger in response to a critical review:

"I am sitting in the smallest room of my house. I have your review before me. In a moment it will be behind me."

I was on the fence about renewing my MR subscription for the last couple months, and finally decided to re-up for another year at the end of last week. I'm glad now I did so for the reasons so eloquently stated by a few on this thread.

As for the e-mails...I understand these to be part of the brave new world in which we live. There are a few I open, but quite a few more I just delete without opening. Honestly doesn't take that much time or effort to clear them out of my way so that I can focus on what really interests me.

I let my MR expire and did not take it for a couple of years because there was hardly anything in it that interested me and content got less and less. Then last year I thought I would give it another go and subscribed. Same ole stuff, I let it expire again and doubt I will ever go back.

Surfing the net I have found pictures of many outstanding layouts that have never appeared in MR and I used to enjoy MR's coverage of layouts.

And the magazines' DVD collections won't last long, as the media and the machines that play them will have a short shelf life in the ever-evolving technology of consumer electronics.
