Vintage SP action
Author: sphauler

Work continues on my 1953 era SP layout. This week I focused on laying down scenery well at least the base ground cover. I still need to add more ballast, track weathering, trees, static grass etc. Hope you enjoy.

1) Extra #4258 holds the siding and waits in the clear for the next westbound train. On the side track the PFE reefers are in “ventilation service” and are waiting to be spotted.
2) Drifting down grade train #71, the Coast Mail and it's helper arrive to meet the extra. The helper today is F4 class 2-10-2 #3711.
3) The road locomotive on today's mail is a GS-1 which is still earning it's keep after twenty-three years of service. It will still last two more years before retirement.

I used Walther's PRR B60b cars for a substitute. I bought several undecorated kits many years ago. These kits are fantastic. They came with three different style roofs, doors and vents. I'm pretty sure they are now discontinued.
