Athearn HO NS SD70 Ace Heritage units
Author: TamaquaTim

I am considering the purchase of the CNJ unit with sound. The detail on these units looks great but I am wondering if they are a good running unit.
In addition is the sound on the units good?
Thanks, TT

Detail is very good, I have the VGN, RDG, and IT in Athearn Genesis.... have ran all 3 of them together for multiple hours...they track well and I myself think they sound really good.. they are a little lighter than the MTH's, Athearn Genesis won't pull quite as much but sound just as good..

I have the whole Athearn heritage collection. The Genesis units easily pull 50 cars (Walthers proto tank cars) up a 3% grade. If you MU them though and run curves tighter than 28 degrees, you will need to extend on couple as the rear platforms will hit and bind.

Super smooth running, really nice detail. Just program and run 'em!

Not my era, but couldn't keep my hands off one of the MRL units. Runs, sounds and looks just fine.
