Model Railroading > Photos from this past weekend's Mid Atlantic RPM meetDate: 09/15/14 14:25 Photos from this past weekend's Mid Atlantic RPM meet Author: VAmidlandrr My pictures are only from Friday's models that were displayed. I did not get the chance to get more pictures on Saturday. I'm a co-founder and overall it was a great meet in our second year. Over 250 models displayed and 18 dioramas/structures were displayed.

Most interesting - especially your RF&P ore cars: have never seen anything like these before (prototype) on this line. Can you offer info on when, where, why, etc. In all my exposure to RF&P books/literature, I was never aware that they existed...

I missed the meet for the second year in a row - both just happened to fall on weekends I had to be out of town. I hope I can catch it next year, but my work schedule isn't looking good...

They were rebuilt with MK ballast doors. They stayed online, (designated by the white stripes) for ballast service. They also had some larger ones that were purchased new from the Rogers Ballast Car Company.

I saw them in service in the 1980's. They usually ran on MOW trains from a quarry on the Dahlgren Branch to wherever they were needed on-line. There was also a Sand Train that used to run from the Dahlgren Branch to the cement plant at RO. It ran usually at night with a caboose and all RF&P open hopper cars. This is part 2 of a article I did on detailing RF&P diesels which talks about how I made the rear horn. The link also has a link to part one. http://virginiamidlandrr.blogspot.com/2012/07/detailing-rf-geeps-part-2.html Shannon Crabtree Fredericksburg, VA Virginia Midland Railroad Blog |
