Model Railroading > Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255Date: 10/24/14 05:01 Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: brfriedm So with openhouse coming up, I like to put out some new stuff for folks to see. I saw some pictures of the SD90MAC's that NS just purchased from UP and decided to model 7255. I am just about done. I have to weather the body some more and she will be finished. I bought this Kato UP SD90MAC years ago as we were actually seeing them from time to time. I was going to retire her to Ebay and now she has a new life. Here she is trailing on a loaded slab train heading into the siding at East Van Bibber to meet one. Thanks

Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 10/24/14 06:11 Re: Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: fbe The prototype photo shows fresh paint on the trucks like those on the SD9043s still running on the UP. The truck rehab seem the norm for units coming out of storage on the UP these days.

Did you see the new Intermountain es44ac. [csx] ???? Date: 10/24/14 07:44 Re: Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: NSDTK They came via Emd. They may have done some truck work as I think they were supposed to prep for service. I wonder if NS will reinstall the steering link. Nice looking model.

This does NOT disable the steering function of the truck, it just links the motion of the front and rear axles of the truck. Date: 10/24/14 09:29 Re: Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: imrl Very nice!

Very Nice model and photos. At least on the prototype, NS did not go out and patch the loco with big black patches, which would have contrasted poorly against the yellow/gray. The yellow color patches are not quite the same shade of yellow when looking up close, but once you step away, the yellow blends fairly well with the original color of the locomotive. I believe you did a nice job in modelling the look of the prototype quite nicely, including the yellow patches. Also, I believe I can provide you with more accurate information regarding the colors of the trucks shown in the prototype photo. From 2010 - 2013, Motive Power in Boise was contracted by UP to rebuild and refurbish the trucks on most of UP's SD90-MAC fleet. The work was performed at MPI's annex shop located approximately 1 mile from their main campus. Most of the truck refurbishing work was performed prior to the discovery of the loco frames being cracked. In addition to the trucks being refurbished, some of the MAC's also had new/refurbished alternator's and various other electrical repairs performed on an as needed basis, so some of the MAC's were electrically in good shape prior to the crack discovery. Motive Power in the early days of the contract screwed up on the paint job on the trucks using an ANSI 61 style gray color instead of the Harbor Mist Gray color they should have used. I have seen in other photos posted by our fellow TO members, a few of the mismatched colored truck MAC's still out there. RosevilleBill Boise, ID. There are some amazing modelers on this site. Posted from Android Date: 10/25/14 06:51 Re: Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: georgiaroad I love to look at pictures of your layout---much inspirational! NS unit looks great. I have always been a fan of re-leasers with paint out patches. I guess it goes back to the CR days when Helm got all those GP38 units that went all over the US. Great job!

It looks like more signal upgrades have taken place at that siding as well. What aspects have you programmed the new signals to show? Great work! Troy Posted from Android Date: 10/26/14 06:32 Re: Modeling NS SD90MAC 7255 Author: bnsfsd70 Awesome!

The real CSX Philly sub is being fully upgraded with new signals due to PTC. So I have been doing the same. B&O CPL's are falling fast. I am literally updating the interlockings on my layout as the real guys do the same. Here is a picture of that interlocking this train just passed through. Signal aspects are not decided on fully yet except for the obvious aspects. Thanks to all for the kind comments.
