Model Railroading > Chasing on the Rock Island High Line - 1969

Made it out to a new to me layout that a good friend had told me about. It was built by Ken Jenkins and he models the Rock Island's High Line, between McFarland, KS and Belleville, KS. I shot some video with my little camera and just got it put together. I've captioned the video so I'll let it tell the story.

As a footnote, I hope the video comes out ok as I just edited it using iMovie on the iPad for the first time. So, hopefully it makes the transition to TO ok.

Very nice layout. Really like the depots.

The depots were scratch built by Ken. He did an excellent job. If you compare the modeled scenes to the prototype, it is easy to see how accurate they came out.

Looks great, man! That really is a great railroad he has down there.

VERY effective modeling! You've got the signature Rock Island details...the depots, gondolas converted to TOFC, etc. Well done!

The only little nitpick is the horns on those sound-equipped locos and that's pretty much out of your control, as few decoders have the correct Nathan P5 horn installed.

Well, at least when it comes to the 5-chime with a "Blat" sound, Ken is certainly aware of that issue, though it's down on the priority list a bit. It was one of the things we talked about as well.

Really nice video and it looks like a great model layout too. The trains brought back memories of some of the RI trains through Nebraska in the 60's. That must be one FINE layout!
