Model Railroading > sd80mac horns?Date: 01/31/15 12:11 sd80mac horns? Author: CR4110 So what do the NS units have from a horn? Also what do the csx ones have? SD80MACS
Thanks scott Posted from Android Date: 01/31/15 13:18 Re: sd80mac horns? Author: rwa14 On NS' they seem to vary from the original CR Leslie RS3L's to Nathan P5's. Depending on which unit you would want to model, I'd check photos and check the dates. I know the NS 7205 had an RS3L in the early 2000s and now has a P5 I believe. I'm not sure if any have received the P3's or later version K5's. The P3 and 5's seem to have spread as horns fail and they need a suitable replacement. Many D-9's have P5's now and some even have the P3's. (Many are starting to show their age and lack of tuning as many have fouled bells, overblow, or just sound 2-3 bells. But if it makes noise, it works, right?)
On CSX they seem to carry the Nathan K5LA's, but some also have the older Leslie's as well. It all depends on specific road number. It's funny because the RS3L type seemed to be the most common horn for a while, now the K5 variants are. But I often hear more P5's than Leslies now. On CSX: 4590 - RS-3L 4591, 4592 - K5LA 4593 - RS-3L 4595 - 4599 - K5LA 4600 - Hybird K5H 4601 - K5LA 4602 - RS-3L (very fouled) Hope that helps, Davis |
