Microscale Amtrak Veteran
Author: Chestnut

Hello I'm looking for Microscale decals in HO for the Amtrak P42 Veterans unit. I checked Microscale and they are out of stock. Does anyone know where I can get a set? I checked Walthers and they don't even have it shown. Thanks!

I don't think these exist. There was a licensing issue.

DOD wouldn't allow use of the devices and service seals that appear on the loco, and they almost certainly never will. Microscale was forced to destroy every set of these decals they made.
Cheers,
Nick

I wonder how Athearn got away with it with SD60M 1991 desert storm engine?

Why won't they allow this on Model Trains, but you can build any plastic model airplane or ship & put modern military decals on it? This doesn't make a lot of sense!

All it takes is for someone to promise a royalty or "donation" to xyz charity/wounded warrior/VA etc. For each unit sold and suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. Never say never.

It's not the markings that was the "problem". It's the pictures of the medals that is the problem.

That and not clearing it with DOD first!

Where's Graham Claytor when you need him! You're exactly right though as I asked Kato a year or so ago if they had thought about doing the Veterans unit and got the same answer. If a unit were done I would gladly run it in the lead of every Amtrak train on the railroad and never weather it. It would have the upmost respect of all of my locomotives.

There you are, GI's fighting and dying for our rights and we don't even have the right to honor them on our model trains!

Because Microscale was so arrogant that they didn't think that the rules applied to them.
DOD didn't want money. Just right of approval. Been that way for decades...
