Modeling Water
Author: Lurch

There are a lot of debates regarding what people like to use for modeling water.  For this scene I used Woodland Scenics new liquid water.  After the first pour I found a couple pinhole leaks in my painted (and sealed, but I guess not good enough) creekbed.  The second pour turned out very nice.  I like the results and need to add some water lillys along the banks.

Nice, but the next time you might try applying some silicone cauking where you want the water to stop to keep it from wicking up the side of the pilings. (Then, you peel it off.) Perhaps someone here knows of another way to hold back the wicking?

Microscale's Micro-mask is also a good alternative.

May I suggest to everyone interested in creating a water scene, take a look at what our fellow ship modelers are doing.  One fellow that I follow on FB is Chris Flodberg.  There are instructional pages on his website that will give spectacular results as shown in the photo below.

Great technique and great model work.

Nice work Lurch, that's a great scene you've got there.

Warren, thanks for posting, that's incredible.

Looks good. When you go back in to weather the rail hit the base of the piers to kill the shine. Same thing happened to me. Surface tension.

Google "chris flodberg water" and you will get a number of valuable sites.

By the way, Lurch, I think your creek scene looks great.
