Southern rr extended height cement hopper build
Author: tankcarsrule

Southern delivered cement in 70T hoppers until their customers ask for larger loads. To solve this problem, they converted the 70T cars into 100T versions. This was accomlished by adding to the height, 100T trucks with brakes, and bracing as needed.
The model was built using two Bowser kits, brass angle, styrene and lots of rivets.

Thanks for looking, Bobby

Nice work. They would never have gotten the large lettering on if they hadn't raised the height of the car.

Gorgeous work Bobby out of curiosity do you keep track of the amount of time you have in projects?

I know I try to but often forget at least a few times per project and end up having to estimate.

fbe, you're right on the lettering, it's big. Thank you.

Penncentral74, thank you very much.

Kris, thanks. I've estimated the time on the two brass tank cars, but none sense.

That is just outstanding work, Bobby!!   Love it!

By the way, what brand 100T trucks are those underneath your car?    Looks great!

Cheers,
Harry

Thank you Russ, your most kind.

As always Harry, thanks. The trucks are KD's with NWSL P:87 wheel sets.

Looks great, I dream about doing work like that. Then I wake up and reality sits in...

Thank you Steve. You should have seen some of my early work, it gave me nightmares. I hit my stride in my 40s now I'm soon to be 71. Start a project that looks to hard and dig in your heels. I can't build a thing unless I'm in the mood.

Thank you Ed. No Archers, those are one at a time off a Athearn snow plow.

PatternofFailure, I appreciate your comments.

Super impressive work Bobby!  Great craftsmanship!

I'm not sure if you noticed though, and I feel a bit awkward pointing it out, but, uh...that's not a tank car. ;-)

Come on Joe, you need to look a little harder. Well I'll be, you're right, it's not a tank car. I have no idea how that happened, it started out as one!?!?

Thanks, Bobby

An easy mistake to make. :-D  We all have a little covered hopper in us, just trying to get out.
