Programming problems.
Author: Frisco1522

I have two different locations for programming.   Both are using Digitrax DCS100 command stations, Powerpax/Locobuffer-USB and Decoder Pro 3.  Everything seems to be working OK, but now for some reason I can't do any programming at either place.   I get an error message saying Stopping due to error.  Timeout talking to the command station (306)
I've swapped components back and forth, cleared the command stations, done everything but stand on my head, but can't get past this.
Anybody been down this road before?

That error indicates that JMRI has lost communication with your Digitrax command station.  Could be a problem in the Loconet connection between the Locobuffer and the DCS100, a failure of the locobuffer, or problems in your computer.  If you are using Windows look in the Device Manager to see if the Locobuffer is connected, then make sure JMRI is selected to the same COM port.

Thanks Barry, I've tried everything I know and then some at least 47 times.  I had that happen a couple of years ago, but don't remember how I fixed it.  Maybe it's time for the Glock repair tool.

I'm sure you'll get it fixed eventually Don. What is it they say about comparing a problem in the computer age with a problem pre computers?

Precomputer Age: It didn't take long find the problem but took a lot of time and sweat to fix it.

Computer Age: It takes a long time to find the problem but once you find it, it doesn't take long to fix it.

So hopefully, you'll have an aha moment and soon be in business.

I hope so.  I have a couple of decoders to program and I never learned to do it the hard way.

One of my duties while an accounting controller some years ago was the IS for the company with the file server in my office. One thing about software that fumed me was that too many bells and whistles (non pun intended) meant that more things could go wrong. And software companies had a repuation of adding more every year so that the software could be used by any company. That's why I went with Easy DCC over Digitrax for my model railroad. I've found I don't need Loconet etc. for my signaling either.I would rather design and maintain my own system rather then ask the local guru to come over or have to refer to a very large owners manual.

It does not say much about that company if they made the book keeper the IT person.

It takes a 5th grade education to use Digitrax. Thanks,

Bruce

There's quite a bit of differnce btw a bookeeper and a controller, but what would you know Bruce. If it takes a 5th grade education to run Digitrax why is everyone posting things on the internet with issues when they can read it in a manual with their 5th grade education?

Hopefully, somene can help Don besides Bruce.
