HO Ethanol plant Q Pics added 2:30 pm

My original plan was to put this on a 2x8 module but now I am seeing that it may be better on a 4x4 or 4x5 module on  the layout, if you have this plant on your layout, what configuration did you decide on ? TIA

The plant could be a layout all on its own with various switch engines running around moving cars.

Ed,

I don't have one but before the company I worked for went out of business I used to drive by one fairly regularaly.
While it's pretty big and has I think two trackmobiles I always thought it's layout off the CSX made for a great
background model of a busy industry.

Basically there are 5 storage tracks next to the mainline plus a loading track for tank cars and there is one line
that runs thru the center of the plant for unloading of hoppers.  From the looks of it you could very conceiveably
model the plant as a flat front, and if you have the Walthers model you could probably split alot of the models
in half to double the size if you wanted.

Anyway's you can type in Poet Biorefining - Leipsic, OH into google maps and it should give you plenty of
overhead ideas of how simple a layout it can be.  There's also a massive steel processor on the other side
of the mainline and just to the north of the road crossing is a Purina Brand dog food plant.  All three have RR
service.

The steel plant is served by CSX & NS not sure about the other two, but I think they are part of an industrial
park owned by the county and service by two RR's I think was a selling point.

The pet food plant north of Leipsic is actually Mars, Inc. brands, including Iams; Mars bought the pet food line from Procter & Gamble last year.

Agree, though, that it's a heavy spot for railroad traffic.

Thanks, it's looking like the plant will move from the 2x8 to the 4x8 module, and the town will go to the 2x8 from the 4x8, gotta love this stuff, LOL

I have mine laid out as a false front with a couple tracks for unloading and loading. It fits nicely into 2 x 6. With the majority in 2 x 4 . only the approaches to the plant take the other two feet. It would be a lower volume plant but still a switch job in its own right.

Patch thanks for the info, guess that's what I get for going off memory!   Then again it's been almost three years since my employeer went under.
I do miss it even with the Metro Detroit to almost Ft Wayne trip, stopping in Deshler a few times a month was really nice.

Do you know if NS has the ability to or do they interchange with the pet food or ethanol plant?  Last time I was there it looked like they were working on
the connector from the NS to the ehtanol plant area west of the diamonds.  Like I said it was several years ago.

There is a plant I don't see modeled much. A pet food candy company. Mars and Hershey come to mind.

NS has access to Poet. They don't have access to the pet food plant.
