Dash 8 Radiators
Author: gandydancer4

When CN picked up old UP and BNSF Dash 8s, I believe they upgraded the innards to Dash 9 specs which included adding extra radiator cores on top of the existing cores. I have since seen this on UP and CSX units as well. Has anyone tried to model these extra radiator cores and if so, how did they do it. Thank you.

The modification to the Dash-8 units is radiator shutters, not extra cores.  The shutter mod has been incorrectly reported as "split cooling" in many posts and publications.  It is merely raditor shutters.

KG is correct.  I have eyeballed them up close.  It is part of the updated emmissions package.

Styrene strips.

Detail Associates makes an etched metal radiator set for Dash 8/Dash 9 models.  Perhaps using the previously mentioned styrene strips and stacking these on top will produce the effect.  Attached is a thread from diesel detailer forum showing how they look on the model:

Good luck!
