Model Railroading > rail power Sd90macH shell question?

Hello,

I'm assuming the rail power shell is a (SD90MAC-H) fit for a kato Sd90mac? You just use the rest of the parts off a kato unit?

Is this a correct assumption?

Rail Power had their own frame , not for Kato.

If I remember correctly the Rail Power Products SD90MAC was released a couple years before the Kato model. They released the shell and frame at the same time, their frames were designed to use Athearn trucks, motor, and drive shafts.

It would be nice for Athearn to come out



 with a SD90 MAC with sound.......

The Kato frame can be modifer to fit the RPP shell.

Front & rear need to be trimmed for length as well as narrowed a bit.  And new hole for coupler screw needs to be drilled and tapped.
1 front
2 rear
3 rear coupler screw

RailPower made their own frame for their shell. Later Overland made a brass drive for the SD80/9043MAC's. You certainly could modify a Kato drive to fit the RPP shell.

Also need to modify the shell some.  Remove any thing hanging below the sill and cut away the cross members from the radiator section.

Ok, I was thinking the Mac-H units where angled hoods and sd70m-2 style cabs? If those look like regular sd90/4300macs..
