Model Railroading > Burlington HO scale E-5Date: 10/09/15 19:01 Burlington HO scale E-5 Author: UP951West Has there been a HO scale Burlington E-5 diesel produced ? Any suggestions ? I'd like to model the first train I rode.. the Sam Houston Zephyr, which was pulled by an E-5.
Thanks in advance. --Kelly Date: 10/09/15 20:14 Re: Burlington HO scale E-5 Author: nikon1 The only E-5's produced in HO scale are brass. Eagle imports (now out of business) imported the Sam Houston Zephyr and can be periodically found.

I had to replaced cracked gears and decoder but now runs fine. I write this because this locomotive is a complete mystery to me. The box that came with it is a Proto 2000 box, marked E6 undecorated. CB&Q, C&S, and FWD were the only railroads that had E5s. (C&S, FWD being owned by the Q.) This would make for a very small market in the HO world. My question, Was this a Shell offered to fit on a Proto E6 frame? Did it come with a champion B unit? The lettering is very sharp so I don't believe this was a start from scratch custom job. If anybody knows anything about this loco, please let me know via PM Jim Leonard Cheyenne Date: 10/10/15 08:07 Re: Burlington HO scale E-5 Author: ntharalson AFReschief Wrote:

If you get an E6 and add the fluting, you'll have an E5. Good luck, no sarcasm intended. http://qconnection.biz/ He had a couple of the Eagle Imports sets he broke up and sold piecemeal...I bought one of the E5s and he may still have one. Even if not, he may come across them from time to time. NZ Date: 10/11/15 04:19 Re: Burlington HO scale E-5 Author: BaylorMax Oriental Limited brought out a brass EMD E5A Phase 1. This was many years ago as the engine came without a flywheel. I have one and it looks good. The engine is plated.
Still, I do want to add DCC, lights, and other details. Seve Barkley Date: 10/11/15 12:06 Re: Burlington HO scale E-5 Author: rob_l Hallmark Models marketed decorated brass E5AB sets, one set with black stripes on the nose and one set with red. They occasionally are offered on E Bay.

The biggest hangup to building an accurate model of one of these would be to lower the windows on the sides about a foot or so, as the Q had them lowered to match the passenger cars. However, for most modeling purposes, I'm pretty sure that you could omit that detail, and come away with an awfully good looking unit.
