Which Wheat Bulbs Do I Need?
Author: philhoov

I bought a quantity of wheat bulbs years ago that I've used to light the buildings on my layout.
Now, I need more and don't remember what I bought before or where I got them.
I see (online) that there are various voltages offered.
I'm powering them with an old Tyco Model 899-V transformer that has a rheostat control lever that works really well for adjusting the lighting.
Because I'm brain dead stupid when it comes to electrical matters, I need some advice.
I still have one of the old bulbs, but there's no indication of what it is.
Can anyone give me some guidance?
TIA
Phil

Turn on the lights then measure the output voltage of the power pack, go from there.

powering off a Tyco power pack, most likely 12-14vdc. Really depends on how wide open you run the the throttle to power your existing lights, you may have 6vdc bulbs.

See if you can find 12 volt bulbs. That way anything less than full throttle will not be a problem

If you go with 12v, make sure they're not touching plastic.
