Bowser BC Rail GMD SD40-2 "Hockey Stick" test run
Author: MrMRL

Just a couple quick iphone snaps of a pair of recently acquired HO scale Bowser GMD SD40-2 models during a short test run at the local train club. Gotta love all those ditchlights! Individual surface mount LEDs behind lenses for each ditch light, no light pipes! Thank you Bowser! Time to dig through proto pics and spruce these up even more to operate with my BCOL C630Ms.

Beautiful looking models Robby.  I think these two qualify for very subtle weathering, if any.  Thanks for sharing

So how many light circuits are on the motherboard?

Front headlight
Rear headlight
Numberboards
Upper left ditch light
Upper right ditch light
Lower left ditch light
Lower right ditch light

That might be a great versatile motherboard for 21 pin decoders if you could buy it as a separate part.

Both sets of ditchlights are driven from the same function. That said, these models also have operational individually lit tri-color class lights that you cycle through using same function.

So all four ditchlight leds are on the same output so they don't flash? Are they pointed straight down the tracks or are the top ones angled across the tracks like the prototypes?

Thanks.

None of the majors in Canada mandate flashing ditchlights.  The native power is non-flashing.  Some of the leased or 2nd hand units may flash, unless they turn that off, not sure.

I seem to recall that the ditchlights on BCR are turned inward.  I'll have to remember to check on mine when I get home...
