BN GP39E project update;
Author: funnelfan

Still working on my BN GP39E #2752. I just got done with some final details, but am now waiting for a couple of antennas to arrive before painting. I just added the horn and the air pipe to it.

The crew will like that horn 3/4 of the way back operated by a solinoid valve for ear protection. The engineers who like to play each note of a good horn with a manual valve will miss that. The rail fans who look forward to hearing a good engineer play each note will be disappointed.

I miss the old manual valves.

Life goes on. Very nice model.

Locomotive engineer Pete.

Way back in time 45+ years ago GP 30's were the first low nose loco's I ran. They are a favorite of mine.

Again nice work.

As a engineer on a shortline, I have operated locomotives with all kinds of horn setups. Having the horn on the cab will give one a headache unless you have hearing protection. Having operated various horn control devices from cords to levers to buttons, a good ole Graham White manual air valve lever mounted at the top of the control stand is by far my favorite. Thankfully all the locomotives we are operating now have the air valve on the control stand with the horn mounted on the long hood. That's the best option, but the downside is the long distance between the valve and the horn causes the horn to not be as responsive as one mounted on the cab. Still, you can practically make the horn sing a song.

Yes, they do have a little pin on the back of the mounting plate. I prefer the DW MU hoses because I can lay them against the plow in a realsitic manner and secure them with AC. A lot of other MU hoses tend to sick out and get broken off in time.
