Anyone try theDCC Concepts Stay Alives?
Author: mttrainman1

I saw them online in single and three packs for a pretty reasonable price but I was wondering if they were had similar capacitance to a TCS KA2 or Soundtrax Currentkeeper. I saw that they had two versions available so experiences on either would be appreciated. Anyone?

Thanks

Dont know but do know that the Soundtraxx current keeper works great and dont want to reinvent the wheel if it works good keep using it is my motto.

There is a down side to them, after shutting power off to the layout took several times of turning around when walking out the door and going back to see if it was shut off. They will continue powering the sound chip for about a  minute.

Well not really a down side but forgetting that it was already turned off for about the tenth time is it. Oh well kind of tounge in cheek comment as seem to forget easier than I used to and that was bad enough. But I do love how good the Soundtrax ones work along with there new decoder series they are bringing out due to the plug in wire harness on them.

I love my TCS KA1's, but I do wish there was a smaller option avalible.

Are you sure about that?  The TCS website shows the KA3 to be much larger than a KA1.  In fact, a KA3, is just a KA2 with one less capacitor, having the same width and height, and a shorter length.  I would welcome a smaller KA than the KA1 though for N scale steam applications.

You are correct, I just reread and my impression of smaller size was due to the shorter length.  I personally had dismissed the ka1 due to its shorter stay-alive time.   I like the shorter length of the ka3 (compared to ka2 and st currentkeeper) for my next two small switcher installs.  Time will tell on performance...
